500 ASA???
thats a bit fast isnt it? unless your shooting at night.
Am i right in thinking if you shoot at 24 fps the shutter speed it 1/24th of a second, making 500 ASA very liable to over exposure unless your carefull with the aperture
PS: Did you mean 50 asa?

Technicolour,
shooting at 24fps doesn't mean you get 1/24 sec. exposure. It all depends on the type of shutter angle you have. An XL camera can have a longer exposure because of a shutter that is open for longer than a more standard shutter. My Nizo has a 220 degree shutter that gives around a 1/40 of a second or so, but my Beaulieu has a 1/90 sec. exposure both running at 24 fps.
As for 500 asa, I'm not a huge fan of it. I've said before that by the time you light well enough for it you might as well shoot the finer grain of 200asa.
Still it's interesting that Widescreen is stocking it. Are they cutting it themselves?
Pro8mm needs the compitition in a big way...

8th man,
thanks for explaining that :d
Would 500 ASA be suitable for shooting at night with maybe a light on the camera

My understanding is that they are re-selling Pro8mm stock. That's all.

Hmmmm--We will just have to wait and see. I have used the Pro8 500 before and wasn't thrilled. I wish that someone would start cutting Fuji stocks. Good Luck

It's funny you say that -- on Andreas' board someone approached Pro 8mm to cut down Fuji Velvia stock for S8 carts. They are willing to do it for $31.00 per cart.

You know , I really had my hopes up for a minute that someone else was cutting down 35 to super8.
Man.
It's not like another company couldn't do this too. Pro8 can't possibly have a patent on this concept. Compitition is the way. If pro8 is so widely used in so many productions why hasn't someone else considered this? I'd love to shoot Fuji neg. stocks too.

Oh and does Kodak have anything besides Ectachrome slide film that is in direct competition with Fuji's Velvia?
Or maybe they're working on something?
If so, it could be what eventually replaces Kodachrome.
I know a lot of pros are shooting Fuji reversal these days so maybe Kodak will have something eventually.
